Yayoi Kusama Infinity Mirror Exhibit at Seattle Art Museum, Part IV

Art, RoadtripLulu1 Comment

I am wrapping up my photo coverage of the Yayoi Kusama Infinity Mirror Exhibit with photos of Kusama and her various projects from her early years to the video of her that was being shown at the end point of the exhibit that featured Yayoi Kusama thanking the auidience for coming to her exhibit.

Yayoi Kusama's Infinity Rooms, especially the Aftermath of Obliteration of Eternity, left me in awe. Watching Yayoi Kusama's video message to the people attending the exhibit touched my heart.

The Yayoi Kusama Infinity Mirror Exhibit at the Seattle Art Museum runs now through September 10th.

This blog post wraps up my coverage of the Yayoi Kusama exhibit at the Seattle Art Museum. Be sure to stop back in early September when I will be sharing with you where you can find your own Kusama inspired polka dot fashion ensembles!

Today's blog post features Yayoi Kusama's paintings and sculptures that were scattered throughout the Infinity Mirror exhibit at the Seattle Art Museum.

I really enjoyed photographing people interacting with the Yayoi Kusama exhibit. Take for instance the look of enraptured delight on the face of the lady in the photo posted below...

On planning my visit to the Yayoi Kusama exhibit I waffled back and forth whether or not to wear the Yayoi Kusama costume that I had put together for an Arts Costume ball last fall. For the costume I combined store bought elements like the wig and dress with items that I hand painted polka dots on like the gourd, my tights and my shoes. Alas, it was too hot to wear my Yayoi Kusama ensemble so I instead opted for my black and white ensemble.

The Yayoi Kusama Infinity Mirror Exhibit at the Seattle Art Museum runs now through September 10th.

I am honored that the Seattle Art Museum allowed me to cover the Kusama exhibit for my blog. I am dividing my coverage up into several different blog posts. Be sure to check back in for more of my coverage of the Yayoi Kusama exhibit.

The focus of today's blog post is polka dots. Yayoi Kusama's polka dot obsession makes for colorful and delightful art. Two galleries focused on her polka dot installations the "Dot Obsession- Love Transformed Into Dots" and "The Obliteration Room".

As you entered the Obliteration Room each person was given a sheet of colorful polka dot stickers to put wherever they wanted. The only rules were: do not make chains with your stickers, do not stand on the furniture to get stickers up high, and be sure to return you empty sticker sheet when leaving the exhibit.

It was fun to think of all the people who had been through the room before us and how they chose to stick their stickers where they did. It was like a giant Wonder Bread wrapper enveloping the room!

Yayoi Kusama is one of the greatest living artists of our time. Throughout her life as an artist Kusama has channeled her energy, her struggles and difficulties, into colorful and light filled visions that are a feast for the eyes. I have had many friends from around the Pacific Northwest ask if it is worth the trip to travel from out of town to the exhibit and my answer has been a wholehearted "YES"!!! Being able to experience her Infinity Mirrors in person was sublime.

Early on in my vintage buying career I would sift through the bins at my local Goodwill and I was forever coming across old Penguin golf shirts made out of synthetic fabrics.

The modern day Original Penguin brand has upped the ante on their old school designs. They are now one of my go to brands that I shop for my husband from.

You can purchase this new Original Penguin 60th Anniversary shirt featuring a bold print of Penguins for $32.97 from Nordstrom Rack
