Bakelite is a fire resistant plastic that can be colored and carved into different shapes and forms.
Bakelite was created by Leo Baekeland in 1909.
It was originally used in industry. But, then it was discovered that it was the perfect thing for making inexpensive jewelry out of.
Nowadays vintage Bakelite is highly collectible and valuable.

Today's Fashion Fridays is about Bakelite jewelry that is manufactured by Ron and Ester Shultz.
