Along our journey we would invariably discover that there was a thrift store located nearby the outsider art attraction or the Worlds Largest whatever attraction that we would be visiting. This would usually result in harrumphing from Chris and squeals of delight from me. The Dickeyville Grotto proved to be no different. In fact the thrift store was located in the church basement on the grounds of the grotto. We found some nice things for good prices. After shopping the thrift store we headed out to look at the grotto.

The Dickeyville Grotto is impressive with it's tile, stone, and shell encrusted decor. The grotto was created by Father Matthias Wernerus from 1925-1930...
