The Enchanted Highway in North Dakota

LuluComment

The Enchanted Highway in North Daokta features giant metal sculptures created by Gary Greff. The sculptures are scattered along thirty-two miles of rural highway...

Geese in Flight...

Deer Crossing...

Grasshopper's Delight...

Fisherman's Dream. This amazing sculpture was our favorite...

Pheasants on the Prairie...

Theodore Roosevelt Rides Again...

The Tin Family...

Tin Ma sign outside of the Echanted Highway Gift Shop in Regent. When we stopped at the gift shop Gary's aunt was scooping up ice cream and telling stories of Gary and his sculptures. She mentioned that he and a group of local kids were out painting.

When Chris and I were standing out on the sidewalk looking at the sculpture pictured below a big van pulled up filled with kids and the person driving the van appeared to be Gary. The driver had the girl that was riding in the passenger seat hop out and push the button for the sculpture to be set into motion: grandma dunked the kids in the bathtub, kids jumped on the bed, grandpa snoozes in his chair, mom works in the kitchen. It was certainly seredipitous timing for their van to have pulled up when we were standing there. We hadn't realized that the sculpture was motorized until the girl pushed the button...
